Michael Valgren from EF Education-EasyPost has withdrawn from the Giro d'Italia and will not take part in the final three stages of the Grand Tour.

Michael Valgren has pulled out of the Giro d'Italia. The Dane will not take part in the last two mountain stages as well as the final in Rome, says EF Education-EasyPost.

The same goes for James Shaw. "Both riders have given an incredible amount to the team in recent weeks, and we are proud of the way they have ridden", says the American team.

"With several riders already out with injuries this season, and as both Michael and James are crucial to our goals this summer, we have made the decision to prioritize their health, recovery, and preparation ahead of the important race program ahead."

'We have enormous respect for the Giro and will fight all the way to Rome.'

EF Education-EasyPost thus indicates that both Shaw and Valgren will take part in the Tour de France.

Valgren celebrated arguably the biggest win of his career when he took his first stage win in a Grand Tour, winning the 17th stage of the Giro, the 202km route from Cassano d'Adda to Andalo.
