A number of athletes have filed a lawsuit against the streaming service HBO Max for using images of them without consent, says the Handball Players' Association and lawyer Morten Dahl Pedersen to Mediawatch.

In total 13 athletes, including handball player Mikkel Hansen has filed the lawsuit.

In addition to handball players, the group includes cyclists, badminton players, and golfers, reports Mediawatch.

The claim for compensation amounts to around €7.000 for each instance in which an image of an athlete was used. The total compensation sought reaches around €270.000

Morten Dahl Pedersen tells Mediawatch that he and the players' association maintain that the images were used without consent to advertise HBO Max during the 2024 Olympic Games.

The two parties are set to meet in the Maritime and Commercial High Court on Monday, 26 October.
