Results have recently been insufficient for Aalborg Pirates, who on Tuesday decided to fire Daniel Johansson as head coach. Instead, assistant coach Heinz Ehlers has been promoted to head coach.

Aalborg Pirates announced the news on their website on Tuesday morning.

Peter Lauritsen, CEO of Aalborg Pirates, explains that the team needs a fresh impetus.

"For some time now, we have failed to translate our potential into the results we desire. When things aren't moving in the right direction, it is our responsibility as a club to take action."

"We have therefore concluded that the time is right to bring a fresh impetus to the team. It is about generating renewed energy, regaining belief in our own qualities, and turning our sporting fortunes around," says Peter Lauritsen.

Aalborg is exploring the possibility of hiring a new assistant coach to support Ehlers.

"Heinz brings significant experience and a deep understanding of the demands placed on a team that aims to compete at the highest level."

"We are confident that, with his approach and leadership experience, he can provide the squad with the direction, energy, and belief needed to turn things around," says Peter Lauritsen.

Following six consecutive defeats, Aalborg are currently second-to-last in the Danish Metal League, with 15 points from 16 games. In total, the club has lost ten league matches this season.

The North Jutland side holds a one-point lead over the Rodovre Mighty Bulls, who occupy the bottom spot—a position that does not qualify for the playoffs.
