Hugo Duro’s last-gasp equaliser earned Valencia a 1-1 draw against Sevilla, extending their unbeaten run in LaLiga to four games (W1, D3) in the process.

These two LaLiga stalwarts' lowly positions in the table didn’t stop either from producing a lively opening at the Mestalla.

Arnaut Danjuma had the first presentable opportunity of the game, but held onto the ball for far too long before seeing his shot blocked.

The energy and application from Sevilla’s league debutant Oso at both ends of the pitch allowed his colleagues to take control of the match, and Akor Adams’ two efforts when well placed were further evidence of the Andalusians' dominance.

Valencia were seemingly content to make the game a scrappy affair, with a series of free-kicks disrupting the visitors’ attacking flow. Ultimately, this did Los Che no favours either, as striker Hugo Duro didn’t manage a single touch in the Sevilla box before the break.

The remainder of the half was played out in the congested central areas, with both sets of midfielders cancelling each other out with relative ease.

Sevilla’s Peque Fernández began to find space and time to dictate the play as the visitors started the second half on the front foot, with Valencia also more adventurous in an attacking sense.

Despite being unmarked, Lucien Agoumé’s shot struck the upper tier of seating behind the goal and was in keeping with the poor finishing on show from both sides.

Even the opener came from a home error, as Oso's admittedly brilliant whipped cross just before the hour mark was turned into the roof of his own net by Cesar Tarrega.

Belatedly, the hosts began to show much more urgency, and Thierry Correira’s run to the near post almost brought them an equaliser.

Valencia sub Lucas Beltran will feel aggrieved not to have earned his side a penalty, though his efforts certainly gave Los Che some late impetus.

As they poured forward, they left themselves light at the back, but they eventually found a goal through Duro's injury-time strike.

While Valencia have now failed to win any of their last 43 matches when conceding first in LaLiga, this will feel like a victory. Sevilla, meanwhile, have now won just one of their last seven league matches, although they remain relatively comfortable in mid-table.
