The US Open has seldom been a happy hunting ground for Goransson, who has never been past the second round in New York, while it's back-to-back first round losses for the Swede in this event, having made an early exit alongside Sem Verbeek 12 months ago.
Having an American and former quarter-finalist on home soil in Galloway wasn't enough to change the 32-year-olds fortunes, though things could easily have been so different, as neither pair forced a loss of serve in normal play throughout the two-set match which lasted two hours and nine minutes.
In the first-set tiebreak, Goransson and Galloway were playing catch-up after losing serve on the first point, but despite holding off a couple of set points, they finally fell to a 7-4 tiebreak loss, as Rojer and Winegar took the set, 7-6.
In game 10 of the second set, the Swedish-American pair held off five match points to hold serve and eventually force another tiebreak, but again they found themselves trailing, and after saving another match point, they couldn't save a seventh, as the unseeded Dutchman and American took another 7-4 win in the tiebreak, and thus another 7-6 set win to take the match.
Rojer - the winner of this event nine years ago - and Winegar will play sixth seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Putz, both of Germany, in the second round.
