Suzan Lamens failed to win on her French Open debut after American Ashlyn Krueger proved too strong: 6-3, 6-4.

Lamens qualified for her first French Open as the number 69 of the WTA rankings and met the 35th-ranked Krueger in her Paris debut. The 25-year-old Lamens struggled from the start: although she broke Krueger in her first two service games, she lost all four of her service games and conceded the first set to Krueger, 6-4.

The second set seemed to take the same route, with Krueger extending her streak of breaks to seven as she went up 4-1. Lamens clinched two breaks and came back to 4-3, but gave her American counterpart five match points in the tenth game before officially losing her French Open debut in straight sets.

Stress

After the 2-0 loss, Lamens admitted she felt some stress for her French Open debut - a match she had dreamt of since she was a child. "Although I trained quite well, it didn't go well. You have that sometimes.

"I always learn more from a defeat than an easy win," Lamens continued. "I have to move on. And I hope I will give the ball a good smack next time."

After her first-round win, Ashlyn Krueger will face rising star Mirra Andreeva in the second round of the French Open.
