Holger Rune has decided to withdraw from the ATP tournament in Hamburg scheduled to begin on Saturday after sustaining a minor relapse in rehabilitation from an Achilles tendon injury. He has also withdrawn from the French Open

Holger Rune will not make a comeback at the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg, which starts on Sunday, after the Achilles tendon injury that he sustained last year at the Stockholm Open, says his team in a press release. He will also miss the French Open.

"I was really looking forward to making my comeback in Hamburg, and you all know that I love the clay and that Paris and Roland Garros have always been something very special to me, so it has not been an easy decision to make."

"But for me it's not just about being able to complete a few matches, but a whole tournament, and I don't want to feel almost ready, but 110 percent ready when I start to play again", he says.

The French Open starts on Sunday, 24 May, while the tournament in Hamburg ends the day before.

The decision has been taken after a minor relapse in rehabilitation, the Rune camp informs. "In connection with the explosive and plyometric work, an irritation occurred in the knee, which has required a more controlled progression in the final sprint. This has advanced the overall schedule by a few weeks, as we did not want to take unnecessary risks", it says.

Rune is now eyeing a comeback in the grass season, which starts in June. The goal is to be ready for the ATP 500 tournament in Queens, which starts on 15 June.

And then the goal is to play at Wimbledon, which runs from 29 June and lasts two weeks.
