Clara Tauson on Friday crashed out of the Australian Open losing to the 17th seeded Canadian youngster Victoria Mboko 7-6 (5), 5-7, 6-3.

Tauson delivered five aces but also had four double faults, converted five out of six chances to break Mbokoi's serve, and won 63 per cent of her first-serve points. She made a stunning comeback from a 5-4 deficit in the second set before Mboko eventually ran away with the match in the third set.

Mboko produced nine double faults but also had six aces at the Grand Slam tennis event. She managed to break Tauson's serve on six out of  13 opportunities and won 65 per cent of her first-serve points.

“I think it was just self-belief at the end,” Mboko said. “I had so many chances in the second set, but I’ve got to give credit where it’s due, she was playing incredible tennis, so I just had to lock in in the important moments. This is my first time here, so I’m really happy to go through to the fourth round", said Mboko after the win.

Mboko will now face the two-time champion Sabalenka, who dragged herself into the fourth round in two tie-break sets, defeating Anastasia Potapova 7-6 (4), 7-6 (7).
