"We are about to launch a new era". Those are the words from Danish national team coach Brian Riemer before he today announces his squad for the crucial Nations League quarter-finals against Portugal.

Brian Riemer indicates that he will make adjustments when he today announces the squad for the upcoming Nations League quarter-finals against Portugal after a four-month break for the Danish national team.

Brian Riemer took over the job in October and since then he has had over 100 days of preparation before he on Tuesday will present "his own team" for the first time.

"Now we have to start a new era. Four months have passed, and the selection of players will also reflect that, because the squad must have a touch of what I want", says Riemer to Danish news agency Ritzau.

"You will see speedy players who has a natural attacking mindset and who can put pressure on our opponents. I would like to see that."

"Everything will not be changed tactically, and there will not be 15 new names in the squad, but you will undoubtedly see a squad with types of players who has courage, speed and creative skills as essential qualities."

After breaking Zlatan Ibrahimovic's goascoring record in the French Ligue 1, AS Monaco's Mika Biereth is one of those players likely to be selected given Denmark's current goalscoring problems.

"He comes roaring forward. If you perform as he has recently, then you put yourself in in a good position to be selected for the Danish national team", says Riemer.

Just like Biereth, Jesper Lindstrom is also one of those players that Riemer has visited lately. Lindstrom has developed into a regular performer for Everton in the Premier League and eyes his first real selection since 2023.

"We want some players who can drive forward when they get the ball, so we can play a more direct form of football. When we are in one-on-one situations in the opponents' final third, we have to attack, challenge, make crosses or make shots on goal", says Riemer who underlines that strong individualists must join up with players maintaining the balance in the team to form a hard-working unit.

The Nations League quarter-final against Portugal will be played 20 - and 23. March.
