The Danish FA announced on Friday that Joakim Maehle and Mikkel Damsgaard both have left the Danish camp.
Fortunately, it is happy circumstances that has made the 27-year old left back unable to take part in the return leg as his wife is heavily pregnant, and Maehle will stay home in Wolfsburg for the birth.
Joakim Maehle played the entire match for Denmark on Thursday in the 1-0 win against Portugal in Copenhagen.
Mikkel Damsgaard was ruled out of Thursday's match in Copenhagen with illness and it was unlikely that he would get well for the return match, which is why he is also leaving the Danish squad.
Instead, Victor Kristiansen has been summoned as the only replacement. Consequently, Denmark's squad is now down to 22 players.
Apart from the chance of qualifying for the Nations League semifinal, the result against Portugal will also have impact on Denmark's World Cup qualification: A win puts Denmark in Group F, while a defeat sends Denmark into Group C.
