Parma beat Lazio for the first time in 15 attempts, with a 3-1 Serie A victory at the Stadio Ennio Tardini in Serie A that sees the beaten visitors lose ground in a close fledgling title race.

The visitors thought they got off to the perfect start when Nicolo Rovella’s wonderful first-time strike from distance found the corner inside just two minutes, but the goal was ruled out for a foul in the build-up.

Incidentally, it was the hosts who took the lead just four minutes later, as Dennis Man latched onto a rebound before slotting into the corner from inside the box.

With Parma having only lost one of 24 matches in which he scored previously, that was a good omen for the pre-match outsiders.

However, Lazio were determined to at least equalise before half-time, as Fisayo Dele-Bashiru forced an excellent reflex save from Zion Suzuki, before the goalkeeper also denied Taty Castellanos with a smart stop.

The Argentine did put the ball in the net minutes later, but was denied by the offside flag. And Lazio continued their momentum into the second half, as substitute Pedro lept highest in the box from a corner, but could only direct his header straight at Suzuki.

The Roman side’s missed chances would be punished again, as Anas Haj Mohamed struck a beautiful volley into the top corner from a considerable distance, for a goal worthy of winning any match.

The Eagles were deflated after that, but after Suzuki made another brilliant save to deny Loum Tchaouna, the Japan international would finally be beaten with just nine minutes left on the clock, as Castellanos finally got his goal by firing a rebound into the bottom corner after the ball broke kindly to him in the area.

However, Parma put the result back out of any doubt in stoppage time, as Enrico Del Prato made some space for himself in the box before calmly slotting into the bottom corner.

As a result of this loss, Lazio duly stay in fifth place, breaking their previous eight-match unbeaten run in all competitions. Meanwhile, Parma broke a five-game winless run at home, with just their second victory in 12 matches across all competitions.
