Mason Mount scored in Manchester United’s win over Sunderland and delivered a strong message about Ruben Amorim, signalling his support for the manager.

The 26-year-old was preferred ahead of Matheus Cunha as United’s left-sided number 10 for the game against Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 4th.

Mount proved Amorim right in his decision, opening the scoring after just eight minutes before Benjamin Sesko secured all three points with his second goal in as many games.

Speaking after the game, the attacking midfielder insisted that the squad are behind the manager despite their frustrating start to the season.

He said: "We're 100% behind the gaffer. We've had some difficult results that hurt us, have been painful for the team, the staff and the fans, but today it was important to win."

Mount hopes that the win over Sunderland can be the start of a winning streak, adding: "It needs to be - we thought after Chelsea it would be the start of something, and then we go to Brentford and have a disappointing result.

“It starts today, and we'll be working hard over the break. We want to get back-to-back wins, then three in a row and push on for the top four."
