Egypt international and Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah (32) has equalled Wayne Rooney’s Premier League record of scoring goals at a home venue.

The former African Player of the Year netted the Reds’ second goal in their 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

With Luis Diaz giving the hosts a 15th-minute lead at Anfield, Salah doubled Liverpool’s advantage from the penalty spot 22 minutes later following a foul by goalkeeper Jose Sa.

He now boasts 101 goals in the English top flight at Anfield, the same number of goals scored by English football great Rooney at Old Trafford during his spell at Manchester United.

Salah is now five goals short of former Argentina and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero who scored 106 goals at the Etihad Stadium during a trophy-laden career in England.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has the most goals at a single venue in the competition’s history with 114 goals at Highbury.

Although Brazilian star Matheus Cunha pulled one goal back for Wolves towards the end of the match, it could not stop the league leaders from securing all points at stake.

Salah who has now scored in his last six consecutive matches - also brightened his chances of winning the Golden Boot with his 23rd league goal of the 2024-25 campaign.

He made the move to Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017 for a reported £36.5m fee. Over the past eight years, he has firmly established himself as a club legend, guiding the team to both Champions League and Premier League titles, while becoming the club’s all-time top scorer in each competition.

His contract at Anfield is set to expire at the end of this season, with multiple clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, showing strong interest in securing his signature.

This result ensured Arne Slot’s men returned to winning ways after a thrilling 2-2 draw at Everton their last time out. Thanks to this result, the Reds extended their lead at the summit of the Premier League to seven points above second-placed Arsenal.

Liverpool are visitors to Aston Villa in three days' time before travelling to the Etihad Stadium on February 23 where they face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in a potential league classic.
