Joao Palhinha, the 30-year-old Portuguese midfielder, has been officially unveiled as Tottenham's new signing, joining the London club on loan from Bayern Munich.

After one season at Bayern Munich that featured 25 official appearances, Palhinha is now returning to England, where he excelled during his two seasons with Fulham.

The Portuguese international midfielder joins Tottenham on an initial loan, with the London club holding an option to buy at the end of the season.

Palhinha began his career at Sacavenense before joining Sporting as a youth player in 2012. He made his debut for the B team at the age of 18, before making his first-team debut in January 2017.

During his first few years, he also gained experience on loan at Moreirense, Belenenses and SC Braga. At the latter, he played a key role in winning the 2019/20 League Cup with Ruben Amorim at the helm.

Returning to Sporting in 2020, he helped them win the 2020/21 league title – the club's first championship in 19 years – and was named in the Team of the Year. During his time at Sporting, Palhinha also helped the club win two League Cups and the Super Cup.

In 2022, Palhinha headed to the Premier League, joining Fulham. He quickly became one of the league's most dominant defensive midfielders and was named Fulham's Player of the Season after his first campaign. Over two seasons at Craven Cottage, he made 79 appearances for the West London club, scored eight goals and made more tackles than any other player in the Premier League.

His consistent, high-level displays for Fulham earned him a move to Bayern Munich in July 2024, where he was part of the team that won the Bundesliga title last season.

At international level, he made his debut for Portugal's senior national team in 2021 and has since gone on to make 34 international appearances for his country, taking part in the 2020 and 2024 European Championships, as well as the 2022 World Cup. He was also part of the Portuguese team that won the Nations League in June.
