A partisan atmosphere at the Stadium de Toulouse certainly had the desired effect on the hosts as they came storming out of the blocks.
Aron Donnum saw his early free-kick blocked, but almost immediately, Joao Neves then made Toulouse pay with an acrobatic overhead finish.
Before 10 minutes were on the clock, Bradley Barcola got in behind Djibril Sidibe and, as Guillame Restes came out to narrow the angle, the PSG winger slotted home the visitors’ second to silence the home fans.
Incredibly, Neves then scored another overhead kick before the quarter-hour mark.
Frank Magri was stopped in his tracks as the hosts attempted to puncture PSG’s free-spirited performance, though it was nothing more than a slight respite against Luis Enrique’s side, who were putting on a masterclass with 70 minutes still to play.
Barcola’s cross-cum-shot almost deceived Restes, before a late challenge from Cristian Casseres on Desire Doue gave PSG the chance for a fourth from the penalty spot, and Ousmane Dembele duly made no mistake.
A few moments of sustained pressure from the hosts was rewarded when Charlie Cresswell hammered home in the 36th minute.
Then, in first-half injury-time, a chance for a second was passed up as PSG keeper Lucas Chevalier remarkably saved a Magri penalty as well as Casseres’ re-take.
Hakimi had Restes at full stretch at the start of the second half, and consistent PSG pressure saw Barcola felled by Sidibe for yet another penalty on 50 minutes, with Dembele once again finishing with aplomb.
Still the visitors poured forward at every opportunity, forcing Toulouse into a back five when trying to chase the game. With Neves and Vitinha controlling the midfield, the hosts were forced to go long, playing into PSG’s hands while doing so.
In a blow to the Parisians, Dembele was forced off with a suspected hamstring issue, though it would make no difference to the outcome.
Neves made sure of the man-of-the-match accolade with a hat-trick goal of real quality, rifling home from the edge of the area.
Yann Gboho did bag a 90th-minute consolation for Toulouse before Alexis Vossah added another in injury-time, but it was too little, too late to really trouble Enrique and Co.
This 22nd win from 27 Ligue 1 games played against Toulouse was a foregone conclusion for PSG after just nine minutes and saw them return to the top of the Ligue 1 table.
That victory, meanwhile, curtails the hosts’ unbeaten run (W4, D2) in the process, although they are unlikely to be the last team put to the sword by the UEFA Champions League holders this term.
