Coach Niko Kovac emphasised: "We all saw that he was very disappointed. He didn't realise that the second yellow would immediately result in a suspension."
Bellingham had arrived too late in a tackle with Monterrey's Nelson Deossa in the 28th minute; the 19-year-old had seen his first yellow card in the group stage in the 1-0 win against Ulsan HD from South Korea.
Bellingham had immediately developed into a regular at the Club World Cup following his move to Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of June, starting every game after his debut in the first group match against Fluminense.
