In a statement released on Thursday, Belgian outfit RC Genk have condemned the group of unticketed supporters that caused the UEFA Europa League game against FC Utrecht to be delayed.

A group of around 60 unticketed RC Genk fans violently breached FC Utrecht's stadium security before the UEFA Europa League game between the two sides. After the illegal group of fans ignored calls to leave the stadium, the entire away section was subsequently swept clean by riot police, who were attacked by Genk fans, as seen on footage verified by Flashscore.

Kick-off was subsequently delayed until 21.50 CET, fifty minutes after the game was supposed to start.

Utrecht mayor Sharon Dijksma was called in for an emergency meeting, which resulted in the away section being deemed unsafe and thus closed for the entire match.

Club condemns violent outbursts

In a statement released by RC Genk during the 2-0 win over FC Utrecht, the club condemned the actions from their fans.

"Serious damage was caused to the toilets and seats in the visitors' section. On this basis, FC Utrecht, in consultation with UEFA, declared the visitors' section unsafe, resulting in its closure to all KRC Genk supporters," the club said.

"KRC Genk condemns the behaviour of this small minority of supporters. The club regrets the inconvenience caused to both supporters and the organisation. The club will thoroughly evaluate this incident and consider what further steps need to be taken."

Genk sold out all 1,400 away tickets to Thursday's UEFA Europa League match, which confirmed the club's spot in the knock-out phase of the competition. All 1,400 legitimate ticket holders will be reimbursed for both their tickets and travel costs, the club confirmed.
