West Ham are working on a transfer for Ajax striker Brian Brobbey (23), according to several Dutch media.

Brobbey has been struggling this season and only managed to find the net on three occasions with the last being the Eredivisie game against PEC Zwolle on November 24th.

Voetbal International’s Tim van Duijn and De Telegraaf’s Mike Verweij reported that West Ham are working on an initial loan deal for Brobbey with an obligation to buy the striker, but Ajax will not settle for a loan deal and want to permanently sell Brobbey.

23-year-old Brobbey left Ajax once before to join Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig on a free transfer in the summer of 2021, but re-joined Ajax on loan just six months later after only nine appearances and zero goals for Leipzig and permanently moved back in the summer of 2022 for a reported fee of about €16 million.

Ajax currently have three strikers in the senior squad in the form of Brobbey, Dutch international Wout Weghorst, and Englishman Chuba Akpom, but are desperately looking for funds in order to acquire new players. A permanent transfer is therefore preferred by the Dutch record champions.

West Ham are looking to restrengthen the striker position after Michail Antonio’s car accident in December but will have to pay a reported €30 million excluding €5 million in add-ons to the Amsterdam side.

Brobbey, who's under contract until 2027, has only scored three goals this campaign with one in each of the Eredivisie, Europa League qualifying and the Europa League's league phase. Brobbey finished last year's Eredivisie campaign with 18 goals and 8 assists and was voted Ajax's player of the year by the fans.
