Borussia Dortmund is hoping for the imminent departure of high earner Sebastien Haller. In order to realise this plan, BVB would like to terminate the Ivorian's contract with a severance payment. However, negotiations with the 31-year-old attacker's management are proving extremely difficult.

Sebastien Haller still has a contract with Borussia Dortmund that is valid until 2026. As the Ivorian is one of BVB's top earners but no longer plays a sporting role, the Black & Yellows are currently trying to terminate his contract with a severance payment.

According to German newspaper BILD, there is a major problem: the severance payment of €2 million offered by Dortmund does not meet Haller's demands. His management is reportedly demanding three times that amount instead.

With a rumoured gross annual salary of around 10 million euros, this would still mean savings from BVB's point of view, but would add an (expensive) anecdote to an already grotesque situation - the idea of collecting a transfer fee has apparently been definitively rejected by sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Misunderstanding

Should an agreement still be reached, the 31-year-old centre-forward could join his former club FC Utrecht. He was loaned out to the Eredivisie side last season.

In 2022, Dortmund paid a transfer fee of €31 million to Ajax Amsterdam to realise the signing of the French-born player.

Soon afterwards, Haller was diagnosed with testicular cancer. After an operation and months of rehabilitation, he was only able to fulfil the high sporting expectations sporadically. He scored twelve goals in 41 competitive matches for Dortmund.
