Reigning Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven started their hunt for a third-straight title in perfect fashion when Sparta Rotterdam were thumped 6-1 in a game goalkeeper Joel Drommel will want to quickly forget.

PSV already played one official game before Saturday's league season opener - the Eindhoven side beat Go Ahead Eagles 2-1 on Sunday to win the Johan Cruyff Shield.

As opposed to last Sunday, Ruben van Bommel was handed his first official start for PSV after the former AZ winger recovered from a back injury. Alassane Plea was given his second-straight start, too, with striker Ricardo Pepi still not fit enough to play.

Visitors Sparta saw four new players start, including former PSV goalkeeper Joel Drommel. Jens Toornstra and FC Twente loanee Sayf Ltaief formed the attacking midfield, and former Dutch international Bruno Martins Indi wore the captain's armband in his first game for Sparta.
