Several Dutch media reported on Thursday that PSV were set to secure the signing of the 19-year-old Cisse, who's had an impressive half-season at Catanzaro. The Italian midfielder has scored six goals and assisted one in 21 Serie B appearances.
De Telegraaf's Jeroen Kapteijns reported a general agreement between PSV and Hellas Verona, while only compensation for Catanzano was the subject of further discussion. It was reported that this was solved after PSV's 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich, and a transfer fee of around €8 million was reserved for Cisse.
Now, however, Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that AC Milan have hijacked the deal. Early murmurings of Milan trying to reel in Cisse in a last-ditch effort did the rounds on Friday, but the deal now seems to be done.
PSV watcher Rik Elfrink from Eindhovens Dagblad confirmed the news on Saturday: "PSV thought yesterday (Friday) that they still had a good chance, but it seems that they will miss out on signing this Italian player after all."
Milan are set to pay €8 million, excluding €1.5 million in bonuses. Cisse will spend the final half of the season at Catanzano, who get their wish with fair compensation in a transfer of the young midfielder.
