PSV deepened FC Utrecht's troubles even further with a ravaging 6-1 away win on Sunday.

PSV had a somewhat weak start to the season, with a heavy loss in the Johan Cruyff Shield and questionable results in their first two Eredivisie games, but recovered with a 5-1 home win against FC Groningen last week. The win was enough for manager Peter Bosz to field an unchanged XI, thus keeping newcomers Filip Kostic and Lutsharel Geertruida on the bench.

An entertaining opening phase saw FC Utrecht take a surprise lead, with Niklas Vesterlund escaping from Mauro Junior's guard and setting up Artem Stepanov with an inviting cutback, which the Ukrainian blasted past Matej Kovar.

PSV did not wait long to respond, with Ruben van Bommel launching a rocket into Vasilis Barkas' far corner just minutes later.

The reigning champions had the upper hand in Utrecht, but failed to take the lead until right before half-time, when Sergino Dest stayed calm and found Guus Til, who took the ball first-time and left Barkas without a chance.

PSV took it up a notch in the second half, with Utrecht stepping back and inviting pressure. It led to no chances for Utrecht, who still survived for 30 minutes in the second half.

Captain Mauro Junior effectively ended Utrecht's hopes of a shock result against the champions with a free-kick goal, which inspired PSV to go all-out on the lame ducks of FC Utrecht.

Sven Mijnans, who replaced the disappointing Ricardo Pepi, got a chance to open his PSV account from the spot, but hit the post. The former AZ captain still got his maiden PSV goal one minute later, hitting a beauty from outside the box.

Guus Til added his second of the match two minutes later, after which Sergino Dest completed the humiliation ritual with PSV's sixth goal.

A flailing FC Utrecht were kept winless for the fourth straight match this season, opening with 1 point from the opening month. FC Utrecht face Go Ahead Eagles next, while PSV are set to visit rivals Ajax in Amsterdam.
