It's worth noting that even before he pitched up in the French capital, the Spaniard had a distinguished reputation.
Though Pep Guardiola has often won all the plaudits as the best coach of his generation - perhaps the best ever in the eyes of some - it's often gone under the radar that Luis Enrique's time as manager of Barcelona was actually more successful than his former teammate's.
Statistically, they scored more goals and conceded fewer, had a higher win percentage and won competitions at a similar rate.
To that end, success was expected at PSG and whilst the ultimate prize of the Champions League still hasn't been landed at the time of writing, the Parisiens are certainly getting closer to that dream as their recent performance at Anfield in particular shows.
So, what's changed?
For a start, PSG now seem more of a team than they've been over the past few star-studded seasons.
Luis Enrique is getting the best out of Ousmane Dembele
Although Luis Enrique worked with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar at Barca, he has never suffered fools gladly and anyone not willing to sacrifice themselves for the team will have been out on their ear.
Dembele, a player beset by disciplinary issues whilst with the Catalans, joined Barca a couple of months after Luis Enrique left, with the latter now unquestionably getting the best out of the former.
The French World Cup winner has been in stunning personal form this season and has plundered 32 goals in all competitions as well as supplying seven assists.

His most successful season for Barcelona (2018/19) saw him score 14 goals and provide eight assists by way of comparison.
Though he has become a focal point for the team - his goalscoring record places him only second to Mbappe and ahead of Messi, Neymar and others - he's far from the superstar in the way that those big names were. That's because Luis Enrique simply won't allow it.
On the opposite wing to Dembele, Bradley Barcola has also shown himself to be a regular supply line for the team. 23 goals and 24 assists in just 84 games is some return from the 22-year-old.
The pace at which both he and Dembele break often sets the tone of PSG's attacks, and not only makes life exceptionally difficult for defenders but also allows for a supplementary attacking presence from the likes of Achraf Hakimi (five goals and 12 assists this season), and gives Desire Doue the room in which to execute to a frankly unbelievable degree.
At just 19 years of age, Doue has already bagged 10 goals and 11 assists in 2024/25, putting him ahead of Marco Asensio, Angel Di Maria and others in terms of output.
Dembele, Barcola, Doue and Hakimi also feature in the top 20 PSG players from 2021/22 onwards in terms of passing stats, indicating that it isn't just in front of goal where their excellence is centred.
For example, only Marquinhos has played more passes than Hakimi's 9,679, of which 8,667 were completed, giving him a brilliant 89.5% pass completion.

As if to underscore the confidence that Doue has displayed already, the youngster has made 1,277 passes in his 41 games for PSG, which isn't far behind Barcola's 1,970 despite the latter playing for the club for a season longer (84 games in total).
With no Zlatan, Mbappe, Neymar or other big-name superstar to demand that their egos are fed at every opportunity, it has allowed Luis Enrique to implement a different style of play at PSG and one that is more conducive to success.
To give a little more context, this weekend sees PSG play Angers, needing just a point to secure the Ligue 1 title - whilst still unbeaten.
With six league games then left to play, the Parisiens would have the chance to become the first team in French top-flight history to go unbeaten during a league season, something that they couldn't manage with even the game's biggest names wearing their shirt.
Not to mention that they remain one of the favourites this year to finally land their maiden Champions League, and they're already in the French Cup Final against Reims.
In terms of continuing their unbeaten record, the nearest anyone has come to being 'invincible' in France was back in the 1994/95 campaign when Nantes were defeated on just the one occasion in the league.
Nantes also hold the longest unbeaten record in the league from that same season with 32 games.
More history beckons for PSG and Luis Enrique
PSG are 27 without defeat and counting, and their recent 6-1 victory over Saint-Etienne also extended their unbeaten run away from home in the French top-flight to 38 matches.
That equaled a European record set by AC Milan in Serie A - no defeats between 1991 and 1993 - and PSG can beat it when they travel to Stade de la Beaujoire on April 22nd, coincidentally to take on Nantes.
Everywhere you look in the PSG squad there is a success story at the moment with everyone seemingly pulling in the same direction.
With respect to the likes of Unai Emery, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and others, perhaps what proved to be an incredibly hard line taken by Luis Enrique finally convinced the club's board to back the Spaniard to the hilt, whereas previously it could be contended that the star names held all the power.
Team before I was always going to be Luis Enrique's mantra if he was to be handed the responsibility of hopefully taking PSG to the promised land, and we are seeing the results of his incredible managerial abilities in real time.
Arguably, more than any player, the hiring of the 54-year-old has been Paris Saint-Germain's best recent piece of transfer business.
