Borussia Dortmund 3-1 Barcelona
7 - Borussia Dortmund's 2024/25 UEFA Champions League campaign will end with a victory, despite their elimination. A Serhou Guirassy hat-trick gave the Bundesliga outfit hope, but they ultimately fell short. Dortmund are six points away from a UCL spot domestically, and they are quickly running out of time there.
However, they can at least celebrate finally winning a European match against Barca, getting the job done at the seventh time of asking.
24 - Barcelona have been just about unstoppable in 2025. They have been scoring for fun, and it is unsurprising they have finally returned to the UCL semi-finals six years on from their last appearance. The dream of a third domestic treble is still a possibility for the Catalans.
The defeat in Germany ended a 24-game unbeaten though, with Dortmund becoming the first side to taste victory against them this calendar year.
Aston Villa 3-2 Paris Saint-Germain
3 - Aston Villa's maiden journey in the Champions League era has concluded, and they have much to be proud of. The 1981/82 European Cup winners kept five clean sheets and won eight matches, including on Tuesday. Unfortunately for them, they fall just short. As they did back in 1983, the quarter-final stage is where things came to an end.
At least Villa bow out on a win, their third against Ligue 1 opposition. All three victories have come at home.
5 - Paris Saint-Germain prevailed 5-4 on aggregate in what was a pulsating game at Villa Park. Yet, Les Parisiens showed their quality when it mattered most to move on.
They are now in their fifth semi-final in Europe's premier club competition, and fourth in the UCL era. In fact, it is now four appearances at this stage for PSG in their last six campaigns. Only once have they gone further, though.
Inter Milan 2-2 Bayern Munich
15 - Inter Milan are showing just how difficult it is to beat them. A 4-3 aggregate win sends the Nerazzurri into their second semi-final in the last three seasons.
Inter, who were the last Italian team to win the UCL, are now unbeaten in their last 15 home matches in the competition. Funny enough, the last team to come out on top at San Siro happened to be Bayern back in the 2022/23 group phase.
10 - Despite their injury woes, Bayern Munich gave Inter all they could handle. Yet, the Bavarians could not overturn their first-leg deficit as they fell at this stage for the fourth time in the last five years.
This is the 10th time Bayern have been knocked out at the quarter-final stage in the Champions League era. No team have suffered more in that round of the tournament.
Real Madrid 1-2 Arsenal
6 - For Real Madrid's lofty standards, the 2024/25 UCL term will be seen as a massive disappointment. For the first time in five years, they have lost both legs of a knockout round tie. When that last happened, it also came against an English club (Manchester City).
Perhaps the more worrying thing for Real is the fact that Wednesday's defeat was their sixth in the UCL this campaign. They have never suffered more losses in a European season than this.
2 - Arsenal are finally back in the UCL semi-finals. It has been 16 years since their last showing at this point. The Gunners are also still undefeated versus Real across four head-to-heads.
They have also joined unique company, becoming the eighth different team to knock out Real Madrid on two different occasions in the European Cup/Champions League. Only Bayern Munich (five) and Juventus (four) have done so more frequently.
