Celtic and Club Brugge played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at Parkhead in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) League Phase. The result means the Belgians are still winless on Scottish soil having failed on their previous two visits (D1, L1).

The stakes for the two sides couldn’t be higher in their first-ever meeting, as Celtic and Brugge knew that three points would go a long way to potentially securing their route into the UCL knockout stages.

Despite being the home side, it was Celtic who were on the back foot, as their Belgian guests were quick to start pressing their box in search of the opening goal.

Ferran Jutgla nearly found the back of the net within the first five minutes, as the Spaniard’s shot from the edge of the box went just wide of Kasper Schmeichel’s goal.

Brendan Rodgers’ side eventually got over their slow start and began to fight back, but that didn’t stop the visitors from surging forward, with Andreas Skov Olsen the next to take aim, but he shanked his effort wide of the mark.

That didn’t seem to matter moments later as Cameron Carter-Vickers panicked under pressure and tried to pass back to Schmeichel, but unaware of his keeper's whereabouts he ended up passing the ball into his own net to give Brugge the lead.

The hosts tried their best to get level before the break, but efforts from Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate failed to beat Simon Mignolet, as the Hoops went into half-time behind by one goal.

Having failed to register a single shot on target in the first half, Brugge looked to double their lead with an early chance in the second as Maxim De Cuyper let fly from the edge of the box, but his effort also went wide of the goal.

Celtic got themselves level when Alex Valle played Daizen Maeda into the box, with the forward quick to cut back onto his right foot before firing past Mignolet and into the far side netting.

The two sides continued to trade chances, but ultimately neither could find a winner with the point being beneficial to them both, as Celtic remained in 19th place in the table. Meanwhile, the point for Brugge sees them climb up two places to 22nd.
