In the final minutes of the game in Leverkusen, Mainz coach Bo Henriksen was sent off after receiving two yellow cards within a very short amount of time.

The Danish coach is well known for his temper and is always very emotionally involved in the game on the sideline.

As coach of FC Zurich in the Swiss League he saw red twice within the last 15 months but he had never been sent off in the German Bundesliga until yesterday where referee Tobias Welz within a matter of seconds handed him two yellow cards.

“I just said to the referee that three minutes of injury time isn’t that much,” the coach explained to Sky after the game.

"Then I got a yellow card straight away and then started clapping a bit and then he sent me off", says Henriksen. “We don’t need to overdramatize it, it was hectic moment in the game,” said sports director Niko Bungert after the match.

Henriksen was also able to laugh about the situation again shortly after the end of the game and took it lightly:

"That's life, but I would have liked the referee to show more understanding for that moment in the game."

Henriksen will now serve a suspension as Mainz coach for the first time for the away game at Union Berlin on Sunday (3:30 p.m)

A Yellow or red card did not matter so much for the Danish coach because he would have been suspended anyway for receiving the first yellow card as it was his fourth yellow card of the season which automatically turns into a suspension.

Mainz lost the game to Leverkusen through Alejandro Grimaldos goal three minutes after the restart. Despite the defeat Mainz hung on to their 5th spot in the German Bundesliga.
