Leon Goretzka (29) netted a brace as Bayern Munich extended their lead atop the Bundesliga table to seven points, defeating VfL Wolfsburg 3-2 at the Allianz Arena to maintain a record of just one league defeat this season (W14, D3).

The Bavarians started to threaten right from the off, with Vincent Kompany’s side eventually taking the lead after a dominant opening 20 minutes.

The goal came from Leon Goretzka, who received the ball from Joshua Kimmich before driving forward and unleashing a thunderous strike from the edge of the box into the bottom-left corner.

The home side's lead was short-lived though, with the visitors scoring with their first chance of the game just four minutes later.

The goal was scored by Algerian striker Mohamed Amoura after a smartly worked free-kick found the forward just inside the penalty area, allowing him to bend his strike into the far right-bottom corner.

However, Bayern responded well after the goal and restored their lead with six minutes of the first half remaining.

This time Michael Olise received the ball on the edge of the area before drilling a shot into the bottom-right corner.

Kompany’s side picked up where they left off after the break, continuing to dominate the game and going close to adding a third goal five minutes after the restart.

The chance came after Kingsley Coman whipped a cross into the penalty area where Leroy Sane was lurking, but he directed his header just inches wide of the left post.

Their third goal did eventually come, with Goretzka netting his second of the game when Olise whipped an exquisite free-kick into the box for Goretzka to glance in off the far post to double the hosts' lead.

Bayern very nearly wrapped things up with a fourth goal five minutes from time, as Jamal Musiala raced onto a pass from Alphonso Davies before firing wide from just inside the penalty area.

However, it was the visitors who pulled a goal back late on when Amoura netted his second of the game after turning Tiago Tomas’ pass into the right side of the Bayern goal.

The hosts managed to hold on from there to secure all three points, solidifying their position at the Bundesliga summit.

Meanwhile, Wolfsburg remain just outside the European spots, with a point separating them from sixth-placed FSV Mainz.
