Two African players were on target twice, while two others were sent off in a weekend full of highs and lows for the continent's stars abroad.

England

Bryan Mbeumo was on target as Brentford silenced Brighton and Hove Albion in a Premier League outing.

The Cameroon international was on target in each half as the Bees returned to winning ways in the six-goal thriller at London’s Gtech Community Stadium.

Mbeumo put Brentford ahead 10 minutes into the game after beating Bart Verbruggen, however, Danny Welbeck restored parity on the stroke of half time with a fine header.

Three minutes after the restart, he completed his brace after his curling effort found the bottom corner of his 18th goal of the 2024-25 campaign.

Ten minutes later, he turned provider for DR Congo international Yoane Wissa as the Londoners secured all points to move to the 11th spot in the log after accruing 46 points.

Elsewhere, Nigeria prospect Ethan Nwaneri was among the goal scorers as Arsenal secured a 4-0 victory at Ipswich Town.

A brace from Leandro Trossard and strike from Gabriel Martinelli had given the Gunners a comfortable three-goal lead over the ten-player hosts.

However, Nwaneri, who replaced Bukayo Saka in the 57th minute, rounded up the win at Portman Road.

In the same game, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji made his English top-flight debut after replacing Trossard with four minutes left on the clock.

At Craven Cottage, Alex Iwobi netted his ninth league goal of the ongoing season, but that could not rescue Fulham from losing 2-1 at home to Chelsea.

The Cottagers got off to a flying start when the Nigerian international put his team ahead after 20 minutes.

With Ryan Sessegnon displacing Reece James, he dashed towards the box and assisted the former Arsenal man – whose left-footed finish sailed past goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

However, Tyrique George and Pedro Neto scored late in the game to hand the Blues all maximum points as they continue to push harder for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Italy

Assane Diao was at the double as Como picked up a 3-0 away victory at Lecce to extend their winning streak to three matches.

Having defeated Torino 1-0 in their last fixture, Cesc Fabregas’ men travelled to Stadio Ettore Giardiniero full of confidence.

In the keenly-contested affair, Diao put the visitors ahead in the 33rd minute thanks to an assist from Argentine midfielder Nico Paz.

Defender Edoardo Goldaniga doubled Como’s advantage in the 84th minute before the Senegal international completed his brace with a last-gasp effort with Gabriel Strefezza providing the assist.

Germany

Serhou Guirassy was on target once more as Borussia Dortmund battled to a thrilling 3-2 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in a pulsating Bundesliga encounter.

The in-form Guinean striker continued his impressive run with a well-taken goal that helped his side secure all three points at Signal Iduna Park.

Victory for Dortmund keeps their push for a top-four finish alive, with just a few fixtures remaining in a tightly contested race for Champions League qualification.

Bochum’s hopes of securing vital points took a hit on the road as they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Werder Bremen, with midfielder Ibrahima Sissoko receiving a red card late in the game.

In the tightly contested match at the Weserstadion, Bremen edged ahead through a well-taken goal midway through the second half.

The visitors struggled to find rhythm and were further hampered when the Mali international was sent off for a reckless challenge.

Despite a late push, Bochum couldn’t break down Bremen’s backline, sealing another frustrating outing as the Bundesliga season nears its conclusion.

Spain

Getafe endured a frustrating outing at the RCDE Stadium, falling 1-0 to Espanyol in a match that saw Nigeria international Christantus Uche sent off just after the hour mark.

The tight contest was finely balanced until Uche received his marching orders for a rash challenge, leaving the visitors a man down as they pushed for an equaliser.

Espanyol capitalised on the advantage to tighten their grip on the game, defending their slim lead with composure.

For the visitors, the loss is a blow in their battle for mid-table stability.

Umar Sadiq emerged as Valencia’s hero, netting the equaliser in a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano on the road.

The Nigerian forward delivered when it mattered most, calmly slotting home midway through the second half to cancel out Rayo’s early opener.

His goal not only rescued a point for Los Che but also underlined his growing influence in the squad.
