Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya’s goal for AmaZulu against Marumo Gallants in their Betway Premiership clash on Saturday means he has now scored in seven consecutive games this season, but has some way to go to break the international record.

Ngwenya netted his ninth goal of the campaign in the first half of the clash, which includes seven in the league and two in the MTN8.

He has now netted against Stellenbosch, Sekhukhune United (two), Orlando Pirates, Siwelele, Mamelodi Sundowns (two), Richards Bay and Gallants.

The international record is 21 games in succession by Hungarian Josef Bican between July 1939 and May 1940.

The Betway Premiership is never short of drama as Orlando Pirates ended Mamelodi Sundowns' eight-year reign as champions last season. Kaizer Chiefs are hoping to become genuine title contenders again this year. Keep up to date with the latest news, analysis, incredible statistics and more.

Lionel Messi also scored in 21 league games in a row for Barcelona in the 2012/13 season, though there were cup games during that run in which he did not score.

Robert Lewandowski scored in 19 games in succession for Bayern Munich in 2021 and is second on that list.

Ngwenya netted seven goals in the entirety of last season from 19 appearances (16 starts, three as a substitute).

In total, the 23-year-old now has 16 goals for Usuthu from 26 appearances (24 starts). It is a fine return following his move to the club from FC Platinum in July 2025.
