Defeat to Red Bull Salzburg in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) play-offs ensured Mjallby would be playing their maiden European league phase campaign in the UEFA Conference League (UECL), the draw for which was made on Friday 28th August.

Having never played in Europe at any level before this summer, Mjallby's position as Allsvenskan champions saw them begin their journey in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), where they beat Lincoln Red Imps before falling to defeat against Slovan Bratislava, which set up the Salzburg tie.

Karl Marius Aksum's side saw their league form dwindle during their European qualification run, and their season is not set to get any easier once the league phase begins in October.

The draw threw up three particularly challenging away ties for Mjallby, who will travel to 2024 UEL champions Atalanta, and make long trips to Georgia and Kazakhstan to face Iberia 1999 and Kairat, respectively.

Kairat and Atalanta both played in the UCL last season, as did one of Mjallby's home opponents, Pafos of Cyprus. The Swedish side will also welcome Bosnian side Borac Banja Luka and Andorran debutants Inter Club d'Escaldes to Strandvallen.
