Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani recorded his 1,000th career hit with a home run during Wednesday's matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The home run also marks Ohtani's 39th of the year, just one away from making it three straight years with at least 40 home runs.

Ohtani also had his best outing on the mound, giving up just one run on two hits in four innings while recording eight strikeouts, bringing his yearly earned run average down to 2.37.

Heading into Wednesday's matchup, Ohtani was batting .276 with a National League-leading .601 slugging percentage and .981 OPS. His 264 total bases and 13 intentional walks also lead all the National League.

The reigning NL MVP is currently leading his way to yet another in back-to-back years and what could be his fourth overall.
