The Seattle Mariners defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Sunday thanks to a pair of clutch hits from Cal Raleigh and Jorge Polanco!

Toronto took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a solo home run from George Springer. His oppo-taco was the first leadoff home run in Blue Jays postseason history.

Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman had been lights out through the first five innings of Game 1.

But Seattle's own MVP candidate in Raleigh finally broke through in the clutch to tie it all up 1-1 with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.

After Gausman walked Julio Rodriguez following Raleigh's home run, Toronto brought in reliever Brendon Little, who proceeded to throw a wild pitch that let Rodriguez advance to second.

Then Jorge Polanco, the Mariners' Game 5 hero of the ALDS just a couple of nights ago, hit an RBI single to get J-Rod home - giving the M's a 2-1 lead.

Things got dicey for the Blue Jays in the top of the seventh inning.

Louis Varland came in for Little on the mound then proceeded to give up a double to Eugenio Suarez. Seattle's Dominic Canzone would hit a grounder to move Suarez over to third.

With just one out, Varland would get the Blue Jays out of a jam after striking out Victor Robles and forcing J.P. Crawford to ground out.

Seattle starting pitcher Bryce Miller put on one heck of a performance himself after just being on just three days of rest.

The righty had retired 17 of the last 19 batters he faced after giving up the home run to Springer in the first and a single to Anthony Santander in the second - Toronto would go on to not record a single hit the rest of the game.

He would finish with just one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Gabe Speier would take over in the seventh for Miller then get out of the inning unscathed thanks to an incredible sliding catch from left fielder Randy Arozarena to end the inning.

But that was just the beginning for Arozarena.

He would not only walk in the top of the eighth, but he would proceed to steal both second and third base with just one out.

And who else but Polanco himself to bring in Arozarena to go up 3-1?

Polanco finished the night going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. He's been Mr. Clutch for the Mariners in the past two games. First, the walk-off in Game 5 of the ALDS to eliminate the Tigers. Now, in Game 1 of the ALCS.

The Mariners bullpen would finish the game without allowing a single hit, walk, or run while striking out three.

As a whole, Seattle's pitching staff didn't eclipse 100 pitches.

Toronto finished 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position, while the Mariners finished 2-for-10 - with both hits coming from Polanco.

Game 2 between the Mariners and Blue Jays will take place on Monday, October 13th.
