After being forced to abandon the Paris-Nice following a brutal crash where he sprained his hand, Jonas Vingegaard has not recovered sufficiently to take part in the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya says his team, Team Visma Lease a Bike.

Jonas Vingegaard will not be ready for the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya after he crashed hard in the Paris-Nice on stage 5 and abandoned the race on the following day.

The Dane will therefore not be part of team of the seven Team Visma | Lease a Bike riders who take part in next week's race.

The team says on X that Jonas Vingegaard has not recovered sufficiently from the crash in Paris-Nice, where he sprained his hand.

Volta Ciclista a Catalunya should – like Paris-Nice – have served as preparation for Jonas Vingegaard towards this summer's Tour de France.

According to the original schedule, Jonas Vingegaard now has only one race planned before the Tour in July. It is the Critérium du Dauphiné in June.
