The NHL hosted an eight-game slate on Sunday that was headlined by a couple of career milestones from Minnesota Wild's Marcus Johansson and Toronto Maple Leafs' John Tavares!

Hurricanes 5-4 Leafs

John Tavares scored his ninth goal and recorded his 12th assist of the season during his 1,500th career game.

Unfortunately, Toronto took the loss, making it back-to-back as they fell to 8-7-1. Goaltender Dennis Hildeby put up 45 saves - a new career high for the now two-year youngster.

The Leafs took a 3-2 lead halfway into the second period, but Carolina scored three unanswered and outshot Toronto 22-2 in the third period alone (47-20 overall).

Carolina improved to an Eastern Conference-best 11-4-0 and have now won four straight.

Wild 2-0 Flames

Similar to Tavares, Minnesota Wild's Marcus Johansson recorded an assist, his ninth on the season, during his 1,000th career game and the team's second straight win as they improved to 7-7-3.

Matt Boldy scored his eighth of the season in the game's lone goal, making it three in the past three games, and racked up an assist on an empty-netter from Kirill Kaprizov (10).

Despite outshooting the Wild 35-19, the Calgary Flames just can't seem to get it together as they fell to 4-11-2 on the year.

Wild goaltender Jesper Wallstedt picked up his second career shutout in his 10th career start with 35 saves - a career best.

Blackhawks 5-1 Wings

Despite Dylan Larkin (9) tying it up for Detroit in the first period after a Connor Bedard (9) goal, the Blackhawks would score four straight goals in the next two periods to earn their third straight win.

One of the other four goals came from Chicago's Tyler Bertuzzi, who is currently one of the hottest snipers in the league, as he has now scored a goal in three straight games (six goals in total).

Blackhawks improved to 8-5-3 as they now sit fourth in the Western Conference. Red Wings fell 9-7-0 and have now lost three straight despite outshooting the Blackhawks on Sunday 46-20.

Senators 4-2 Mammoth

Leevi Merilainen recorded 29 saves for the Senators in his first start in two weeks and just his 17th career game.

Ottawa extended their point streak to five games thanks to goals from Ridly Greig (2), Jordan Spence (1), Nick Cousins (3), and Michael Amadio (6).

They now improve to 8-5-3, while Utah continues to slump as they have now lost three straight and fell to 9-7-0.

Stars 2-1 Kraken

The Kraken got out ahead first with a goal from Jaden Schwartz (5) in the first period, but Wyatt Johnston (10) and Tyler Seguin (5) scored shortly afterwards before the end of the first to take the eventual lead en route to a win.

Johnston is now on a five-game point streak as Dallas improved to improved to 9-4-3 on the season, and 6-1-3 in their last 10 games, despite being outshot 31-24.

The Kraken have now dropped to 7-4-4 on the year.

Kings 3-2 Penguins

Following an Anthony Mantha (8) goal to put the Pens up 2-1, Corey Perry scored his seventh goal of the season to tie it all up five minutes into the third period.

Perry now has at least one goal in back-to-back games and has at least one point in four of the last five.

And, much like other teams tonight, the Kings improved to 7-5-4 despite being outshot 33-27 by the Penguins, who fell to 9-5-3.

Ducks 4-1 Jets

Beckett Sennecke (6) and Leo Carlsson (10) both scored two each to give the Ducks their seventh win in a row as they improved to 11-3-1.

Carlson has now recorded at least one point in 10 straight games.

Kyle Connor (9) scored the lone goal for Winnipeg, who fell to 9-6-0, losing their third straight.

Avalanche 5-4 Canucks

Nathan MacKinnon (14) scored the first two goals of the game for Colorado while teammate Artturi Lehkonen (6) also put up a pair to help force overtime play.

Just over a minute into OT, Colorado's Gavin Brindley (3) sent one home for the team's third straight win as they improved to 10-1-5 on the season

Linus Karlsson (1), Kiefer Sherwood (10), Drew O'Connor (4), and Jake DeBrusk (5) all scored for the Canucks, who fell to 8-8-1.
