No further details on the length of his contract have been revealed at this time.
Shelton is the former manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who was fired in May after a 12-26 start to the 2025 season. The team finished 71-91 and last in the National League Central division.
He'll be heading back to Minnesota, where he was a bench coach for two years (2018-2019) before the Pirates hired him.
During the 55-year-old's tenure with the Pirates, Shelton finished with a 306-440 record and no playoff appearances, never leading the team to an 80+ season even once.
The Pirates went back-to-back years (2023-2024) with the same record of 76-86 before the two years prior, when they lost 100+ games in each season (2021-2022).
Pittsburgh was Shelton's only MLB managerial experience before joining the Twins in October 2025.
