With just a few games left in the regular season, the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, and New York Rangers will all miss the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs together for the first time in NHL history.

The Boston Bruins currently own the worst record (32-29-9) in the Eastern Conference with just two games remaining on their schedule, with their next game being against the Penguins

After the team fired head coach Jim Montgomery back in November, Boston hit a nasty down slope following a trade deadline that left the squad void of notable players, including their former captain Brad Marchand.

The Bruins eventually went on a 10-game losing streak towards the end of the season, which will end with the franchise's worse record in 20 years, dating back to the 2005 season when they won just 29 games.

Pittsburgh Penguins

With a 33-35-12 record, the Pittsburgh Penguins will miss the playoffs for their third straight year.

Much like Boston, even if the Penguins win their final two games, it'll go down as their fewest wins since the 2005 season when they won just 22 games.

The Penguins need to enter a rebuild mode as the team currently has the highest average age (31.1) of any other squad in the NHL.

New York Rangers

The Rangers, who were looking to make a possible Wild Card push, faltered in the end, losing sixc of their last 10 games.

They will miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2020-2021 season

New York lost last season to the Florida Panthers in the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Conference Finals after winning the Presidents Trophy for having the best record in the league.

Funny enough, depending on your team allegiance, the Panthers knocked out both the Bruins and Rangers en route to their Stanley Cup Finals victory over the Edmonton Oilers last season.
