Early on a loaded day of NHL games, the Boston Bruins, Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils cruise to victory, continuing hot starts to the season.

Boston Bruins 5-1 Philadelphia Flyers

The Boston Bruins (4-2-0) have been clicking on all cylinders early in the year, and on Saturday, they began a loaded slate against the Philadelphia Flyers (0-4-2), a team that's picked up just two points through their first six games played. Unfortunately, it was another tough outing for Philly, with Fraser Minten tallying a goal and two assists to lead the Bruins to victory, as the team rode a three-goal third period to the easy 5-1 victory.

As for the Flyers, Porter Martone picked up his first goal of the campaign, but looking to build on their Stanley Cup Playoffs appearance of a year ago, the team continue to scuffle, with just two overtime loss points in their first six games in 2026/27.

New Jersey Devils 4-1 Vancouver Canucks

The New Jersey Devils (2-2-0) were touted as a potential Stanley Cup Playoffs team in 2026/27, and while they've started slow, they've had some impressive performances. On Saturday they battled the Vancouver Canucks (2-4-0), who have been surprising after finishing 32nd in the NHL standings a year ago, but in this one, it was smooth sailing for the home team.

The star of the show for New Jersey was Jake Allen in net who made 20 saves on the 21 shots he saw, with Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt combining for 3 goals and 5 points on the day. As for Vancouver, Linus Karlsson tallied their only goal while Leevi Merilainen stopped 31 shots on 34 attempts, but ultimately it was all in vain as the Devils cruised to the 4-1 victory.

Edmonton Oilers 3-1 San Jose Sharks

The Edmonton Oilers (4-0-1) have battled goaltending issues early in 2026/27, but after their game against the San Jose Sharks (3-2-0) on Saturday, they've now collected points in all five games this season to date. In this one, the Oilers got it done with balance, as Vasily Podkolzin tallied his fifth of the year while Tristan Jarry was fantastic, stopping 19 shots on the night as they held San Jose to just one goal.

That lone goal came from captain Macklin Celebrini, who now has six points of his own through three of the Sharks five games this season, and while the Oilers looked comfortable at times, it's clear that the Sharks are going to take a big leap in 2026/27.

Minnesota Wild 4-1 Florida Panthers

The Minnesota Wild (3-1-1) have slowly been building a genuine contender in the Central, and after a victory over the Florida Panthers (2-1-2) on Saturday, they’ve pushed their start to 3-1-1. Unsurprisingly, the star of the show in this one was Kirill Kaprizov who tallied his first hat-trick of the year, playing a part in all four goals as he also tallied an assist on the night as well.

This has continued the Panthers struggles early in the year, as the team have just two wins through their first five games, with Jacob Markstrom struggling again, allowing three goals on 28 shots. The lone goal for Florida came to Matthew Tkachuk, but with Aleksander Barkov out moving forward, this team just hasn’t started clicking yet.

Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 Chicago Blackhawks

The Carolina Hurricanes (4-1-1) have hit the ground running in their Stanley Cup title defense, and on Saturday, they flexed their muscles against the struggling Chicago Blackhawks (1-5-0). Once again, this was a full team effort from the defending Champions, with Jordan Martinook, Jackson Blake and Mike Reilly leading the way with two points each, leading 11 different Hurricanes on the scoresheet.

Given that Chicago remain without their captain and biggest star, they remained fairly competitive against a much tougher opponent, with Roman Kantserov and Oliver Moore finding the back of the net despite the team falling to a 1-5-0 record this season.

St. Louis Blues 5-3 Columbus Blue Jackets

Both the St. Louis Blues (2-2-1) and Columbus Blue Jackets (2-2-0) have been battling early in the year, and given the relatively even talent matchup here, it was expected to be one of the best games of the weekend. It lived up to those expectations with eight total goals scored, but with two goals to Jimmy Snuggerud and three assists to Dylan Holloway, it was the Blues that came out on top in this barn burner.

The Blue Jackets didn't lack production either, with goals to three of their most critical young players (Johnson, Nichushkin, Sillinger), and while they came up short, it was yet another impressive showing for a team that could battle their way to a post-season spot in 2026/27.

Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3 Colorado Avalanche

The Toronto Maple Leafs (3-2-1) and Colorado Avalanche (3-2-0) both have lofty ambitions this season, and through the first few periods, this was one of the best games of hockey we've seen in the NHL this season. However, it was a starring performance from William Nylander (2 goals, 3 assists) and Auston Matthews (2 goals, 2 assists) that saw the road team pull away at the end.

It wasn't for a lack of trying from Colorado, who saw star Nathan MacKinnon step up with two goals, but in the end, ill discipline simply came back to haunt the Avalanche, as they fall to 2-1-0 at home on the season with the tough 6-3 loss.

Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 Dallas Stars

The Pittsburgh Penguins (3-2-1) surprised many a year ago, and led by their veteran stars once again, this is a team that's remained hot early in the year, taking on the Dallas Stars (2-2-1) on Saturday night. From the moment the game began, it was a tight, physical affair, and after 60 minutes, the two teams couldn't be separated with goals to Connor Dewar and Tyler Seguin.

From there, five minutes of overtime couldn't separate them either, and with Ben Kindel, Sidney Crosby and Rickard Rakell all finishing on their opportunities in the shootout, it was the Penguins that picked up two points with the 3-2 victory in the SO.

Ottawa Senators 3-2 Nashville Predators

Many wondered how the Ottawa Seantors (4-1-0) would go without captain Brady Tkachuk, but early in the year, a gritty comeback win over the Nashville Predators (2-1-2) has shown the entire league that they will be just fine. Despite trailing for most of the game, Ottawa got a key goal from Drake Batherson with just over a minute left in the game to tie things up, and like Pittsburgh/Dallas, things went to a shootout from there.

With Ottawa going up 2-1 in the shootout, it was up to veteran Steven Stamkos, but when it mattered most, Linus Ullmark stepped up, closing out the game in the SO for Ottawa after making saves on 16 of the 18 shots he saw throughout the game.

Utah Mammoth 4-1 Buffalo Sabres

Many believe it's a matter of when, not if the Utah Mammoth (4-2-0) become a genuine threat in the West, and on Saturday, they showed in their 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres (2-3-0) that their time may be coming very, very soon. The driving force behind another great offensive performance for Utah in this one was Barrett Hayton with two assists, leading three Mammoth players with multiple points and eight players on the scoresheet.

However, for the Sabres who broke out in 2025/26 and returned to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, it's another disappointing performance, with a goal to star Tage Thompson not enough to overcome Colton Ellis' tough performance as he allowed four goals on 30 shots in the loss.

Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3 New York Islanders

The Tampa Bay Lightning (4-1-0) still have one of the deepest rosters in the National Hockey League, and while they're often overlooked, this team once again had a point to prove in their win over the New York Islanders (2-3-0). Unsurprisingly, it was Brandon Hagel that stepped up and led the way with his impressive hat-trick alongside Jake Guentzel who also tallied two on the night.

Ilya Sorokin was brave in net, but ended up allowing four goals on 25 shots on the night, and while Matthew Schaefer and Tony DeAngelo combined for two goals and an assist, it wasn't enough as they fell 5-3 at home against a genuine Stanley Cup contender.

Montreal Canadiens 1-0 Detroit Red Wings

Many expected a matchup of the Montreal Canadiens (2-2-1) and Detroit Red Wings (1-3-1) to feature plenty of goals, but through 60 minutes in this one, a combined 60 shots resulted in exactly no goals between the two. Five minutes of overtime did nothing to settle this one either, with young goaltenders Daniil Tarasov and Jacob Fowler both stepping up against some star offensive weapons for both teams.

In the shootout, it took some time to settle this one too, as it was Montreal's sixth shooter Zachary Bolduc that opened the scoring, and from there, Fowler stopped Nate Danielson, with the Canadiens securing the 1-0 victory in very dramatic fashion.
