NHL roundup: Blackhawks ride three-game win streak, Penguins win second straight in OT

The Chicago Blackhawks won their third straight game, marking their longest winning streak of the season, while the Penguins took another one in overtime to improve to 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.

The Blackhawks defeated Seattle on Thursday 3-1, disappointing newly acquired Kaapo Kakko's debut with the Kraken. Ilya Mikheyev (6) scored the first two goals for Chicago before Ryker Evans (4) responded for Seattle. 

Nolan Allan scored his first goal of the season for the Blackhawks to seal away the victory as the team improved to 12-19-2 on the year while the Kraken fell to 15-17-3 as they have now lost three straight. 

Penguins 5-4 Predators

The Penguins have now won two straight in OT (4-2 on the year, 0-2 in shootouts) after a Thursday night win against the Predators. Bryan Rust (14) tied it up 1-1 in the first period then ended the matchup in overtime with the game-winner. 

Sidney Crosby (9), Rickard Rakell (15), and Erik Karlsson (3) all scored for the Penguins as they improved to 15-14-5 while the Preds remain the worst team in hockey with a 9-17-7 record. 

OT victories

Meanwhile, the Ottawa Senators sent the Calgary Flames home after a quick OT goal within the first minute by Brady Tkachuk (16) to seal a 3-2 win. The Senators have now won a league-best four straight wins as they improve to 16-13-2 on the season.

Edmonton completed the 3-2 comeback against Boston, scoring two straight goals courtesy of Zach Hyman (11) and Connor McDavid (15) before sending it to overtime where Mattias Ekholm (4) nailed the game-winner.

Around the league

The Los Angeles Kings routed the Philadelphia Flyers in a 7-3 victory led by Anze Kopitar (10) and Kevin Fiala (12), who both scored two goals. The Kings now hold the second-best point differential (+19) in the Western Conference while the Flyers (14-15-4) lose their third straight. 

The Columbus Blue Jackets (13-15-5) took home a 4-2 win over the New Jersey Devils (21-11-3) thanks to Sean Monahan's (11) two goals and Elvis Merzlikins' 40 saves.

Tampa Bay (18-10-2) won 3-1 over the St. Louis Blues (15-16-3) as Nikita Kucherov extended his point streak to nine games after a two-assists night.
