Florida Panthers defenceman Aaron Ekblad was suspended 20 games without pay starting with Tuesday's game against the Boston Bruins for violating the National Hockey League's Performance Enhancing Substances Program.

Ekblad released a statement on the suspension stating that he took a certain medication that he shouldn't have while recovering from an injury.

The suspension will run for the remaining 18 games of the regular season and the first two games of the Panthers' first Stanley Cup Playoffs matchup.

The star defenceman and team alternate captain has three goals, 30 assists (33 points), and a +11 +/- in 56 games for the Panthers this season.
