The Edmonton Oilers traded forward Evander Kane to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick on Wednesday.

Kane is under contract for one more year and is set to make $5.125 million this upcoming season with the Canucks before he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

The 34-year-old will now be with a sixth team as he enters his 16th season in the NHL, but made sure to thank the Oilers one last time.

Kane is coming off a solid season for the Oilers, posting 24 goals and 20 assists during the regular season and six goals with six assists during their recent playoff run, which ended in failure for a second year in a row at the hands of the Florida Panthers

A former fourth overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, selected by a now-defunct Atlanta Thrashers team, Kane has scored 326 career goals paired with 291 assists (617 points).

His 85 penalty minutes this past season were the most since he joined the Oilers in 2021. Kane was eventually given a game misconduct during Game 6 of the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals for slashing forward Matthew Tkachuk.

Now, he's on a Canucks team that holds the No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft after finishing the season fifth in the Pacific Division with a 38-30-14 record.
