The Columbus Blue Jackets placed Kirill Marchenko (24) on the injured reserve list on Monday after sustaining a broken jaw during Sunday night's game against the Dallas Stars.

General manager Don Waddell (66) stated that Marchenko would be out indefinitely for an extended period of time after the forward took a puck to the face while sitting on the bench.

Marchenko has been having a stellar season in just his third year. He has a team-leading 21 goals with 34 assists in 53 games with a stellar 31 +/-, which ranks first in the entire league.

The Blue Jackets were also down a defenseman after Dante Fabbro (26) left with an upper-body injury.

"We lost our top pairing (defenseman) and our leading scorer," said Blue Jackets center Adam Fantilli (20). "That’ll be rough for any team, but I think we responded well and did what we could."

Marchenko even had an assist on Fantilli's goal but the Blue Jackets ended up losing 5-3, breaking the team's three-game winning streak.

Columbus is currently fourth in the Metropolitan Division with a 26-20-7 record.
