Sweden have won the first leg of the 2025/26 Euro Hockey Tour, taking three wins from three at the Finnish Hockey Games in Tampere, capped off with a 4-2 victory over the hosts, Finland. Meanwhile, Czech Republic cruised past Switzerland to finish in second place, as three times picked up a win apiece.

Having lost their opener to Switzerland before beating the Czechs, Finland knew they needed to win by a decent margin to wrestle the crown away from Sweden. But those hopes were dashed in the first 14 minutes, as goals from Jesper Froden and Marcus Sorensen put the Swedes in control.

Toni Rajala pulled one back in the final minute of the first period, and midway through the second, they drew level thanks to a Rasmus Rissanen strike, but time was already against them if they were to secure the title.

And those ambitions were finally put to bed in the third period, as Rasmus Asplund put Tre Kronor back in front, before an empty-net goal from Fredrik Olofsson made it 4-2 late on.

The win marked Sweden's first title in what was known as the Karjala Tournament since 2022, while last year's edition remains Finland's only success since 2017.

Despite losing their opening two matches, Czech Republic take second place and knock Finland into third thanks to a comprehensive 4-0 win over Switzerland, who finish in fourth place.

Two goals in two minutes from Filip Chlapik gave the Czechs a healthy lead in the first period, which they doubled in the second courtesy of Matej Stransky and Marian Adamek. Josef Koronar needed to make just 13 saves to record a shutout for his national team.

All four teams will have National Hockey League players to add to their squads, but it's Sweden whose preparations for the 2026 Winter Olympics have made the best start of the top European nations, who meet again in December's Swiss Ice Hockey Games.
