Victories in their final two matches have secured KooKoo a place in the knockout stages of the Champions Hockey League (CHL), while Tappara joined them in the knockout rounds by ending their two-game losing run in the competition.

One win in the first four rounds had put KooKoo under pressure, but successive wins to finish the regular season, with the latter a 5-2 over Adler Mannheim, was enough to see them progress, while the German side were already assured of a top 16 place before this round.

Marcus Davidsson was the hero for KooKoo, scoring twice in three minutes to open a healthy lead after one period, before completing his hat-trick in style with a shorthanded goal early in the second. Anthony Greco responded with a shorthanded strike of his own, but the Kouvola side pulled clear in the third as Veeti Miettinen and Oskari Luoto scored either side of a Brooks Macek consolation.

Tappara started the night in 14th, one place above KooKoo, as back-to-back losses had seen them slip down the standings, but the Finnish champions avoided embarrasment by beating already-eliminated Tychy 6-3 in Poland, ensuring the hosts exit the competition without a win.

An upset was on after the first period, in which Szymon Kucharski and Henri Knuutinen twice put Tychy ahead either side of a Niclas Amlari equaliser, but Tappara roared back in the second, as Benjamin Rautiainen levelled before Vilho Vanhatalo and Aapeli Rasanen punished the home side on powerplays, then Dyland Fabre made it 5-2 before the 40-minute mark.

Rasanen added his second early in the third period, and though Lauri Sertti had the last word for Tychy, the Tampere side had assured themselves of a top 16 place, sitting seventh for the time being.

On Wednesday 14th, SaiPa play leaders Plzen with their place in the next round already assured, meaning all three Finnish sides will play in the knockouts.

Swedish sides had an easier time of it in round six as all four were already guaranteed a place in the last 16 ahead of the final round, meaning Rogle's 5-1 loss to Nitra and Vaxjo's 2-1 defeat in overtime at Pardubice had little impact, only to worsen their seeding for the next round. Both finished the regular season with three wins and three defeats.

There was better luck for Skelleftea, who bounced back from defeat to Plzen by winning 4-2 at home to Salzburg to finish on five wins from six, currently second in the standings, but the performance of the night belonged to Frolunda, who won 11-1 at home to Bordeaux.

Filip Cederqvist scored a hat-trick against the French side as Graeme Clarke and Liam Dower Nilsson both scored twice. Max Lindholm and Stefan Milosevic joined Clarke and Dower Nilsson on three points each, but Cederqvist's two assists meant he led the game with five. Frolunda sit fifth after four wins in the regular season.
