Mathias Gidsel who recently won the Handball World Cup title with Denmark for the fourth successive time has extended his contract with German outfit Füchse Berlin until 2029

Gidsel joined the German club from GOG in the summer of 2022, and after less than half a year, the contract was extended from the summer of 2025 to the summer of 2028.

After yet another extension to the contract one can only assume that the 26-year-old Dane has been handed a financially more lucrative deal.

Gidsel has established himself as a regular outstanding performer in the German Bundesliga after joining the club.

Gidsel was also leading goal scorer in the last four major final tournaments for the Danish national team, and three times he has also been named the tournament's best player.

"Mathias Gidsel has immense importance for the club and the development of the team," said sports director Stefan Kretzschmar and added: "This is not only a promise from Mathias, but also one of us to want to develop the club further. I am very impressed by his loyalty and commitment to the Foxes. I am pleased to have the player, but also the person, Mathias Gidsel with us."

In 2023, Gidsel was named the world's best player after a season in which, the he won his only title so far with Füchse Berlin, the European League in 2022/23. Gidsel won the title again last year as the only player to win the title twice since Nikola Karabatic

On Sunday, Gidsel celebrated his new deal with seven goals and two assists in his team's solid 36-19 win over Potsdam

Füchse Berlin is thus second in the table, four points behind surprising league leaders Melsungen.
