Norway took part in organizing the tournament along with Denmark and Croatia but ended up with a financial deficit despte receiving 10 million Norwegian kroner (800.000 EURO) in government support.
But President of the Norwegain Handball Federatio, Kåre Geir Lio believes that the deficit is acceptable for a championship, which has been organized in collaboration with Denmark and Croatia.
In the end of last year, Norway lost more than two million Norwegian kroner (170.000 EURO) in hosting the the Women's Handball World Cup together with Denmark and Sweden.
Norway's six matches in the Men´s tournament had from 5,508 spectators against Spain, to 11,345 against Portugal.
In total, Norway staged 26 World Cup matches in the Unity Arena. The lowest number of spectators was 644 (Spain-Chile). Two World Cup matches attracted less than 1,000 spectators.
In order to eliminate potential future deficits at staging final tournaments, there are plans to rebuild the handball arena in what was previously called the Telenor Arena at Fornebu close to the Oslo Airport.
The goal is for the arena at Fornebu to be rebuilt into a national arena for 17 special sports in Norway with a total of around 400,000 members.
Both the Norwegian Ice Hockey Association and the Norwegian Tennis Association are involved. It is expected that Bærum municipality will process the case during the year.
