Danish women's handball clubs in Kvindeligaen are on red alert to make possible great new additions to their squad after players at former German Champions League winner Ludwigsburg were released from their contracts Monday after the club filed for bankruptcy.

Players like Johanna BundsenVeronika Mala, Jenny Carlson, Xenia Smits, Karolina Kudlacz-Gloc, Viola Leuchter, Antje Döll and Kaba Gassama are now released from their contracts.

The scenario is similar to last year when Norwegian outfit Vipers Kristiansand went bankrupt and three players subsequently signed for Team Esbjerg while the 44-year-old Norwegian international goalkeeper Kathrine Lunde joined Odense.

The German club's board and management are trying to clarify whether it is possible to continue the project in a much smaller setup and with a smaller budget but probably without a large number of the best players.

According to German media Bild, the club who won the 2024 Champions League final, have accumulated a debt of €2 million.
