Aalborg Handball will be handicapped by the absence of Norwegian international profile, Sander Sagosen, in the beginning of the season as he is set to undergo a thumb operation which will keep him out for at least three months.

Sander Sagosen has injured a thumb during training and will undergo an operation, which will keep him out for three months, says Aalborg Handball on their website.

The 29-year-old playmaker is sorry to be out of action, but at the same time relieved that the injury is not worse.

"I am, of course, incredibly sorry about this injury. My start has been almost perfect, and I was  looking forward to getting started with the season, with several exciting matches awaiting us already in August and September.

"Having said that, I am happy that the scope of the injury is not worse, and my motivation to come back with a bang has only become even greater", says Sagosen.

Aalborg director Jan Larsen feels sure that Aalborg have sufficient cover for Sagosen.

"Fortunately, we have several skilled players in the position, and just like last season, when we were also hit by injuries, we know that there are other profiles ready to fill the gap."

"In any case, there must be no doubt that we will continue to field a very powerful team", says the director.

Aalborg opens the season with a Super Cup match against Skjern on Sunday next week.
