Aalborg Handball were put to the test during their second Championship final against Skjern but managed to pull through to defend their Danish title through a 29-26 win.

For the fifth time in seven years, Aalborg's men's handball team secured the Danish title, when Skjern was defeated 29-26 on Saturday afternoon.

Aalborg Handball thus lived up to being favorites from the start of the season and secured the title on Saturday after two victories in the Championship final matches against Skjern Handball.

The first game on Wednesday ended with a 26-22 victory for Aalborg.

In the second Championship final game, the hosts hung on for the majority of the match but when things came to a head, a number of technical errors proved costly for the home side against an Aalborg team who used all their experience to turn the tide in their favor while Norwegian profile Sander Sagosen stepped into character.

While the first game between the two sides had been a very physical affair, the hosts opened the match at full speed in the counter phase. It created a towering pace, where Aalborg struggled to keep up.

All the right decisions were made in the counter-phase, but it was also clear that it was not a pace that Skjern could maintain for all 60 minutes.

Gradually Aalborg and Sander Sagosen began to find their feet and after a hectic first 15 minutes, the two sides were even on the scoreboard.

The pace then dropped a bit, but the high level did not with the spectators being treated to a high number of great details.

Skjern often attacked wide, and this produced great variation in their attacking game. At the other end Aalborg showed that they have plenty of strength in numbers.

When Sagosen needed a break, Aleks Vlah took over with several good actions, and from the start of the second half, national team defender Mads Hoxer then took over.

Both teams fashioned great chances, but the difference was that Aalborg took advantage of them, while Skjern struggled to find the net as Aalborg took a five-goal lead.

Skjern goalkeeper Christoffer Bonde was, however, inspired by his keeper colleague at the other end. His saves energized the hosts, who scored four successive goals and brought back the excitement in the match.

It lit up the arena in Skjern, but the crowd was quickly silenced again as Skjern, who had otherwise played largely flawlessly, started making technical mistakes and making bad decisions which were duly punished by Aalborg.
