Aalborg got back to winning ways after their defeat in the Champions League against Magdeburg when they won the vital clash at the top of the Danish league against GOG with 32-27 to move three points ahead of their closest league rivals.

The long-standing rivals demonstrated throughout the match why they are both at the top of the table as they offered a hugely entertaining spectacle for the crowd at the Gigantium Arena.

The match was close until the last ten minutes, when Aalborg went up a gear, while GOG had exhausted their mental and physical reserves.

Thomas Arnoldsen, who recently took part in winning the Handball World Championships for Denmark, was the man to watch in the match as he was leading scorer for the home side with nine goals.

The high pace of the match led to a number of sloppy mistakes, for which the visitors paid a high price in the opening and closing stages of the match.

It was Aalborg's first home game after last week's Santander Cup triumph, and the spectators in a packed Gigantium saw Aalborg gain momentum at the end of the first half and at the interval they led by 16-14.

GOG's defense struggled to handle the Aalborg attack throughout the match but replacing goakeeper Salah Boutaf with Peter Johannesson helped them limit the damage in the second half and with ten minutes to go the score was still even as the drama intensified.

But in the final phase of the match Aalborg ran riot to give the final result an indication that the difference between the teams was bigger than it had been in the first 50 minutes.
