This marked Aalborg's first home defeat in the Danish league since the championship final against GOG in June 2023. Above all, it was a dismal start that ended up costing the Aalborg side dearly.
Poor finishing and competent goalkeeping from the experienced Torbjorn Bergerud in the Fredericia goal quickly put the home team on the back foot.
Matters were certainly not helped by the fact that goalkeeper Fabian Norsten failed to make any saves. When he was pulled after nine minutes, Aalborg were trailing 2–7.
Niklas Landin stepped in between the posts, and the Danish champions slowly began to find their footing. When winger Tobias Nielsen narrowed the gap to 14–15, the match began to resemble the expected scenario.
However, Fredericia coach Mathias Madsen had seemingly found a winning formula, and his players simply tightened their grip on the game once more.
After leading 17–14 at halftime, the visitors picked up where they left off in the second half. Nine minutes in, the lead had grown to seven goals, and it was becoming clear that an upset was in the making.
Aalborg never managed to get back into contention, and the match ended with Magnus Landin being sent off, allowing William Andersson Moberg to convert the resulting penalty and seal the win.
